FOR PROFESSIONALS: This article presents conclusions drawn from anatomy and physiology of the tongue as a muscular hydrostat for the evaluation and management of tongue-tie. A release can only be as complete as the original anatomy permits. The use of thermal energy and the requirement for active wound management pose problems for the healing process and the training of tongue function. It is not possible for gaping wound edges to re-attach.
